Having a blast

Well we have all been having a great week and seeing and hooking up with plenty of fish. Unfortunately I have not been out with the guys as much as I would have liked but I have to work. The lads have been doing great but also putting in the hours . Numerous fish have been taken off the rocks in the last few days mainly on Zonk Gatarides and Tide Minows due to a bit of surf these lures are more stable and stay down . Its great being out fishing with people who are as nuts about lure fishing as me it makes me feel some bit justified in my obsession with bass fishing. Taking pictures isn't usually my thing so I must make more of an effort to bring the camera out fishing instead of taking it out in the car park (sorry about that). Still its a good shot of friends out enjoying themselves and talking about the previous session. Having fun is why I keep fishing the people I fish with the people I meet the conversations about fishing is why I love bass fishing so much .
Just to let you know I am now able to take orders over the phone while I'm waiting for the online shop to be set up , new Megabass order arriving in the next few days and IMA next week.
Hope ye are all out there giving it a go and getting a few fish , ( careful its addictive)

I need sleep

Well the lads have arrived and the fishathon has begun,

It has been non stop so far and I don't think that will let up with Mr Gilbey around , I don't think he ever sleeps. Today I am at work in the shop which is great as I got to sleep past 5am but still I would love to be out fishing with the lads . We kicked off Thursday morning with a great session -the amount of bass we saw was incredible. It was frustrating as all of the bass we were seeing were not turned on and not jumping on the hook it was hard work to hook up and get them to attack . At one stage for about an hour myself and Andy had a fish a cast turning on our surface lures but not hooking up.
We did manage a decent number of fish which was great but if we had hooked up with every fish that followed our lures it would have been close to 100 fish.
That evening we went back to the same mark where again Andy did the business on the z -claw and Trevor on the lucky craft Gunfish -pictures on Henry's blog.

The next day we tried a rock mark but it was just too calm -I really think you need a little bit of fizz in the water in rock marks to get them to switch on , so we moved back to where we knew there were fish . Of course we were a little late arriving and missed most of the tide but Paul and Henry managed to land the last 2 bass moving out using finesse fishing with plastics ( finesse seems to be the word of the week)

I will be out again this evening so I will keep ye posted.

A great way to spend a Sunday

The day started when I met the Wicklow boys in the shop at 10am , my wife kindly offered to mind the shop for the day so I could go fishing ( now that's love). We had a quick coffee and set off 2min down the road and the clutch went in the van while towing the boat. Luckily one of the lads was able to hitch the boat to his jeep and we hit the road again after we abandoned the van at the side of the road , at that time the van was the least of my worries all I wanted to do was go fishing . Today its a different story after I found out what its gonna cost me to get fixed, ah well such is life.

More bad news

We arrived at the mark only to see that the water was coloured , the lads were after making a journey to fish this mark so we launched and gave it a go not to the success I had anticipated but everyone hooked up some more than others ( Damien). The fishing was OK but not spectacular and I couldn't care less what a day to be out on the water nice breeze glorious sunshine and good company Steven Corkish, Andrew Murphy and Damien Nockter a great bunch of lads who are well up on there lure fishing . Its great to get out with guys you have not fished with before and see what they are using and what works for them , forever learning.

The lads had to head home in the evening so I dropped them ashore and they hit the road then my buddy Paul arrived and my wife so we said we would give a go for an hour or so given then outstanding weather . What happened next I am still getting grief over this morning , one half hour drift and Paul had 3 fish off the top while I had nothing . My excuse is I trying to show Amy how to fish but he wont buy that !! All joking aside Paul did great all on the lucky Craft Gunfish 115 one of my favorite top water lures.

After that we decide to head home so we got the boat back on the trailer hooked it on to Pauls jeep and headed home for a feed, didn't even think about the jeep once until this morning. Its days like this is why I love fishing so much the excitement, the fun, meeting new people and good company so thanks to everyone who contributed to the brilliant day .

Let the fishing begin

The season has kicked off and already I am hearing loads of catch reports and hopefully we will be seeing plenty of fish like the one above taken by Mr Hill on a GT Shad on one of the trips last year.
Hopefully I will be able to get out tonight to give it a go with my buddy Paul but not sure yet but I will defo be out on Sunday with a few friends from Dublin and hopefully the mark we are planning on fishing throws up a few fish . It will be soft plastics all the way over sandy ground bumping the bottom nothing too complicated but very effective in estuary's. Xlayers, Rolling Shads, Fury Shads and stuff along those lines will be the lures of choice on Sunday all going well and weather permitting it should be good, I will be sure to give a full report and let ye know how we get on .
Next week is going to be the first of the summer fishathons , Henry, Graham, Andy ,Trevor and Nick are arriving on Wednesday evening for a weeks fishing , so from first light Thursday morning it will be nothing but fishing from dawn till dusk and a bit more. Every time the lads come over it takes me a week to recover after they leave and there wont have been a single drink had just a fishing hangover. Its always great to fish with the lads , talk tackle and show off what secret squirrel stuff everyone has got there hands on since we last met. Of course I will blog during the week and keep ye posted on how we are getting on and also complain a bit about how tired I am from fishing 18hrs a day ( a good complaint I know).

First Post

Hello all, the picture is to put a face to Absolute Fishing and show off the amazing bass we have on our coastline here in the sunny (well sometimes!) southeast of Ireland. My name is Cian O'Halloran and I have just opened a new tackle shop specialising in lure fishing for bass but catering for all aspects of salt water fishing in Ireland. We will be stocking all the major lure fishing brands- Megabass, Sakura, IMA, Lucky Craft, Duo, Tide Minow, Tenryu, Lunker City, DeLaLande- to name but a few. We will also be stocking a full range of bait fishing gear from rods, reels and terminal tackle to bait - frozen and live. The online shop is in the process of being done and this blog is to accompany it. The online shop will do what is says on the tin, it will show all of our products, sell them and so on; whereas the blog will give honest tackle reviews and follow me and my friends on fishing sessions throughout the year and show whats working for us, what tactics we are using and what new techniques we are trying.
You can contact the shop at absolutefishing@ymail.com or 051393559 or come and visit us in Riverstown Business Park, Tramore Co. Waterford.
Open: Mon-Fri 10.00 - 19.00, Sat 09.00-18.00 and Sundays & Bank Holidays 10.00-15.00.
Call in, have a coffee and talk fishing with me -its when I'm at my happiest -other than when I am fishing, of course!

Hope ye enjoy the blog!
